Ukrainian Ambassador Attends Cathedral Water Blessing

The formal water blessing was held on Sunday, 22nd January, at the North Melbourne Cathedral this year. This year our Victorian communities had the pleasure to host His Excellency Mykola Kulinich and his wife Olena for a number of meetings and celebrations.

On Saturday morning, Mrs. Kulinich met with all the various women’s organizations at the church hall. She was interested in learning about the various groups which are active in the state.

On Saturday evening, the Ambassador and his wife attended Sviat Vechir (Holy supper) at our Noble Park parish.

On Sunday morning, he was greeted at the Cathedral for the much loved Ukrainian custom of Jordan Water Blessing.

The Cathedral parish hosted its guests from Ukraine for a dinner along with all our parishioners. Mr and Mrs Larry Botte joined in the events with the ambassador.

On Sunday afternoon, the ambassador continued his busy schedule by attending the Ukranian Communities Water Blessing and picnic at Queen’s Park, Moonee Ponds. Over 250 people attended. The Ukrainian Catholic and Orthodox clergy again blessed water. The Cathedral Choir assisted with the singing. The picnic was also honoured by the participation of various groups.

“The whole weekend was a real sign of unity within the Australian Ukrainian communities and with Ukraine and Ukrainians down under” – said Bishop Peter.
