Next year (2014), Father Tony Warwarek will celebrate 10 years of service to the Ukrainian Catholic community in Tasmania. He was ordained a deacon in 2004 and a priest in 2008. Bishop Peter Stasiuk visited the parish on the weekend of September 14th. The parish has certainly matured over the years under Father Tony’s leadership. There are now regular Sunday services in Hobart and Launceston. The congregation has many new faces, the singing and prayers are inspirational. One gets the sense that the parish is a real prayer community. A few weeks ago an announcement was made that the chapel in Launceston would not be used anymore. The decision has now been made that that action was a little too hasty. In fact, Father Tony will continue to have services there, and perhaps hold services more often. Families have moved in, and others want to attend liturgies there.   The community in Tasmania has a very long history. They have a brand new hall and chapel in Hobart, and the sole use of a chapel in Launceston. There is a new sense of determination to work and grow. There may very well be more than 150 families on the island. The church is there to welcome them. Photo gallery from event
