Ivan Mysiv was ordained a deacon in the church of the Ascension in Lviv, Ukraine. The ordination coincided with the 20th anniversary of the Ascension Parish. Bishop Benedict, the auxiliary Bishop of the Archeparchy of Lviv, was a special guest and led the Pontifical Divine Liturgy. The ordination ceremony was performed during the liturgy immediately after the anaphora.

Deacon Ivan currently works on the Patriarchal Catechetical Commission in Lviv. He has been updating the official website of the commission. It should be noted that he is also preparing himself to work in the Eparchy in Australia. Next year the newly ordained deacon will move to Australia for pastoral work after he is ordained a priest in Ukraine.

In his remarks Bishop Benedict commenting on the Gospel passage Mt 25, 14-30 said “Each one of us has received a fullness of talents, those talents are our life. It is our vocation to understand and appreciate what we have received.” He added “The Lord has given each of us exactly what each of us needs for our good. Yet God has given each one of us the greatest talent namely that we are all made in the image of God.”

It should be noted that the Pontifical Divine Liturgy and the ordination service were broadcast live for two hours on television in the Lviv oblast area.
