On Friday the 19th of September Patriarch Sviatoslav flew into Melbourne on the second leg of his Pastoral Visitation of Australia. He was met at the airport and was driven to the cathedral of St Peter and Paul where the parish priest Fr. Andriy Mykytiuk and a large crowd of parishoners priests and religious welcomed him with greetings and bouquets of native flowers.
Young school children greeted His Beatitude with the traditional Ukrainian bread and salt and toddlers with flowers crowded round with greetings and traditional poems. As a sign of peace Patriarch Sviatoslav released two white doves. One dove for peace in the world and a second dove for peace in Ukraine. With the doors opened His Beatitude entered into the cathedral for the first time blessed it and led everyone in a prayer of thanks giving for his safe arrival to Melbourne.
All the clergy and religious of the Ukrainian Catholic Church had assembled in Melbourne to meet and greet their spiritual Leader Patriarch Sviatoslav. The remainder of the first day in Melbourne was spent in religious reflection with the clergy and discussion on the future for the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Australia New Zealand and Oceania.
