The Law School was established in 1883, and in 1926 Sir John Langdon Bonython KCMG endowed the first Professorship (Chair) in Law with a donation of £20,000.  The holder of the Chair is known as the Bonython Professor of Law.  Since 1926, only eight people have held the Chair.  Fr Paul joined the Adelaide Law School in 1999 as a Lecturer, was promoted to Full Professor of Law in 2015, and elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law in 2017.
