“The Holy Spirit is the Comforter” (Gospel of John 14: 10-21).

Reflections on the second day of the Decade

Modern man is very concerned about how other people treat him. But the Christian follows Christ and does not worry about what the world thinks of him. When sin overwhelms a person, he wants there to be no God at all. For them, sin is first invisible, and then it becomes a clear yoke of slavery. It paralyses people, destroys families and communities, quarrels with entire nations, and makes them enemies. Sin becomes a habit that is very difficult to eradicate and difficult to get rid of. When the Holy Spirit fills the human heart, the eyes begin to see in a new way. There are profound changes in a person.

For her, God ceases to be an enemy and becomes a Light. He is the One who sacrificed His own Son for the sake of man. What the Lord desires now is man’s good will. Jesus says, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (Jn 14:15). From now on, man is no longer a slave, but a son or daughter, and under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, man can turn to God with the words “Abba, Father!” (Rom. 8:15), Mankind is deeply convinced that they are a child of God himself. This is what it means to be born of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Church invites us to do this, and people share this joy with other people.

Reflections during the war

The war has several different fronts: defenders with weapons in their hands, the Church of Christ on guard, and volunteers, doctors, infrastructure workers, and all those who support the country in difficult times of trouble. But they die mostly at the front. Therefore, it is most difficult for members of their families to bear the pain of losing soldiers: parents, wives, husbands and children, as well as relatives and close friends. Sometimes emptiness, sometimes frustration, sometimes rebellion, and sometimes just uncertainty fill the hearts of military families. But they know that the sacrifice of soldiers, their dear and dearest, is not in vain, they believe that they will meet in the Kingdom of Heaven, they become bearers of the memory of great heroes, defenders of Ukraine. And all who are with Christ, or have fallen asleep in death out of love for the Lord or their neighbour, or as martyrs murdered in their homes or in the trenches, will come to life with Christ in our human body, already freed from the decay of death. Therefore, we ask the Spirit of God to turn the emptiness, disappointment, rebellion and uncertainty of the families of soldiers as soon as possible into a testimony of the strength of the human spirit, the glory of Ukraine and God’s truth.

Prayer intention: for the families of the military – parents, wives and children, including those who lost relatives in the war – that the Holy Spirit may comfort their hearts and heal their wounds.
