After a number of postponements due to the coronavirus situation last year, a new date has been set for the ordination of Andrew Kania to the diaconate.

Dr. Andrew Kania is 53 years old. He lives in Perth. He is married to Katheryne and has two children, Timothy, 13 years old, and Alexandra who is 9 years old. In 2000 he received a Doctorate on his thesis “Spirituality and Mystical Theology”. For two years he was a lecturer at the University of Notre Dame in Fremantle, Western Australia. He received a fellowship to study in Oxford. He has lectured in various schools and has written many articles related to the study and teaching of Catholic theology. For years he has contributed many thought provoking articles published every month to the Eparchy’s “Church and Life” newspaper. He has taught in catholic schools for 30 years. He is presently employed at Aquinas College. For the last 15 years he has guided over 200 staff and 1500 young men each year in spiritual faith formation as a spiritual director of the school. He is also a cantor, as was his father, in our Ukrainian church in Perth. He certainly is a worthy candidate for the Deaconate.

The ordination will take place on Saturday, 29th May, and Sunday, 30th May 2021, in John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Perth.

Bishop Peter Stasiuk will travel to Perth for the occasion. The Perth Parish is blessed with vocations. Fr. Ihor Holovko is the pastor. Fr. Richard Charlwood works in the parish. Sr. Nicodema SSMI is on staff as well as Subdeacon Paul Power who was recently ordained and now Andrew Kania will be also working in the parish. We should not forget that Sr. Marijka Kondarewycz SSMI, also from Perth, who is working with the Canadian Province of the Sister Servants.

These religious vocations are a sign of God’s love for our Western Australian parish. Let us pray for Religious Vocations for our Eparchy.
