On Sunday, January 8 th 2023, our Church of St. John the Baptist in Perth, Western Australia, held a Christmas Carols Night. Traditionally, we organise such an event in our parish on the first Sunday after Rizdvo, Ukrainian Christmas Day, on 7 th January.

Thank you to Mrs. Diana Teplyj for conducting the evening program so professionally. Thanks also to the performers: Fr. Vasyl Olevych (Ukrainian Orthodox Church) who performed a duet with Fr Ihor, Suzanna Prushynsky and the Uki Ukulele Singers, Music Director Volodymyr Liashchenko and the Echoes of Ukraine Choir, the Ukrainian Youth Association, Anna Kania, Myroslav Gutej, Nora Kulyk, Andrew, Mykola and Anna Yezgor, Serhiy Pogrebnyak and Margo Chyzhma for her angelic rendition of Bozhe Velykyj Yedynyj (O, Great God, Eternal!).

A very special thank you to conductor John Kinder and the Choir of the Catholic parish of St. Thomas the Apostle in Claremont, Perth, for beautifully singing a number of Christmas carols including the Ukrainian Christmas carols Shchedryk (Little Swallow also known as The Carol of the Bells) and Shcho to za predivo – (What a Great Wonder?), both of which were perfectly sung in the Ukrainian language.

All the participants of the evening, the performers and everyone present, were filled with much happiness and joy, which was evident in their enthusiastic, combined singing of the Ukrainian carols. After the festive concert program, during a tasty supper, everyone had

the opportunity to get to know each other better, share their impressions of the Christmas celebrations and sample the traditional Christmas Kutya, prepared with love for everyone by Diana Kulyk from Irpin.

Thank you to everyone, who, in our journey to Bethlehem this year, made such a great effort so that in Ukraine light will overcome darkness and that every family can celebrate life in God in peace and harmony.
