The Right Reverend Hlib Lonchyna is the Eparchial Bishop of the Ukrainian

Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Family of London. He is also Apostolic Visitor for Ukrainians (Byzantine Rite) in Ireland.

Born in Steubenville, Ohio on 23 February 1954, Bishop Lonchyna studied philosophy  and theology at the Urban University of Rome, receiving a Licentiate in Biblical Theology in 1979 e later did his doctoral studies at the Pontifical Oriental Institute and was awarded a doctorate in Eastern Christian Studies in 2001. He was ordained to the priesthood on 3 July 1977; appointed Titular Bishop of Bareta and ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Lviv, Ukraine on 27 February 2002.

From 14 January 2003 to 15 December 2008 he was Apostolic Visitor for the Ukrainian Greek-Catholics in Italy. On 4 March 2004 he became Apostolic Visitor in Spain (until 2008) and Ireland. From 2006 to 2009 he served as Curial Bishop for the Major Archbishop of Kyiv-Halych in Ukraine.

On 2 June 2009, Bishop Hlib was appointed Apostolic Administrator “sede vacante” of the Apostolic Exarchate for Ukrainian Catholics in Great Britain. He was formally named Apostolic Exarch by Pope Benedict XVI on 14 June 2011 and installed on 2 August 2011.

Benedict XVI elevated the Ukrainian Apostolic Exarchate in Great Britain to the rank of Eparchy on 18 January 2013. On this date, Bishop Lonchyna ceased to be the Titular Bishop of Bareta and became the first bishop of the newly established Eparchy of the Holy Family of London.

Bishop Hlib is a member of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, as well as of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales and its Department of Dialogue and Unity.
